Varsity Blues
What was once a status symbol for High School and College athletes is making its way into street style. The Varsity jacket is back. While I was no athlete, I still have my letterman sweater for Associated Student Body, and Drama. I guess I thought I was cool since I was the only one that had a sweater when everyone else had a jacket… I should pull that thing out.
Lady Gaga sporting a custom ‘Monster’ spiked letterman arriving at the Brit Awards, while Alexander Wang takes a modern twist by restructuring the shape and adding some zipper and patent leather detailing for his spring 2010 collection.
The March issue of Out magazine features a black and white leather Louis Vuitton letterman in an editorial called “American Idol.”
So you want to sport the look but didn’t letter in anything? Rugby Ralph Lauren has a cool feature on their website where you can customize your very own varsity sweater with your name and patch. Looking for something a bit more authentic and a hell of a lot cheaper? Check out your local thrift and vintage stores. There are bound to be tones of them. If only I could get my hands on gaga’s… that thing looks deadly.

Chanel Spring 2010
A little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n roll (and by country, I mean french country – a la Marie Antoinette, and by rock ‘n roll, I mean Lily Allen jammin on a pop up stage)… no one really does it quite like Chanel.
Although I don’t think I’m ready for the return of clog heal, sorry Karl.

The Bandit
A lot of exciting things have been happening in fashion recently and I feel like women are being more adventurous with the pieces they choose to wear. Part of the thanks can be given to statement makers like Andrea Edwards, LA native and designer of Hippie Chic headbands. Andrea started making these headbands with pieces of broken jewelery she had been collecting throughout the years and now frequents local vintage stores and yard sales to see what other trash she can turn into treasures like these pictured above. She describes her influences to be the people she observed and was surrounded with while growing up in LA, and that her inspiration comes from quite an eclectic mix “Growing up in Los Angeles there are so many different type of people who inspire me from the lady on Ceaser Chavez Blvd hustling her tamales to punk rock teenager waiting for the bus on Soto Street”. Pair one these with a simple cocktail dress and boom, instant party success.
I’ve been a fan of these headbands since I first stepped into the Little Dress Shop and so I’m excited to finally share them with you guys. Each one is truly a little masterpiece of its own, and whats more unique than the one of a kind designs is the one of a kind names she gives to each one.
Prices range from $30+ and are available at,

Hot Topic
So the past few days the blogosphere has been abuzz with the start of production that has been taking place in NYC for the Sex and the City sequel. While I admit I was skeptic at first about a second movie, being a HUGE fan of the series and liking the way the movie set everything into place for me, it is very exciting to see Carrie back in action. I mean, can we talk about the ferocity of those Louboutins?

In Vogue
Lots of exciting things happening for fashion lovers in the coming months. The highly anticipated return of Project Runway is finally back after a two year hiatus due to a legal battle of ownership between networks. The show will premiere August 20th at its new home on the Lifetime station. So far the promo videos have been very emotional and sappy, and, well, very Lifetime. This new video however should actually get people excited about the new season!
I also checked out The Sartorialist this morning and found out that Scott Schuman’s new Book, The Sartorialist which is a collection of photographs posted on his blog, will be out in a couple of weeks! I pre-ordered my copy this morning and am very excited about this book. I have an ‘inspiration’ folder on my desktop where I keep favorite images, many of them taken by Shuman, so it will be nice to have them in print. I mean, who doesn’t want to be shot by The Sartorialist? ;)
Now after having said that last line I simply had to share this brilliant guide to making it onto The Sartorialist from Refinery 29
ahaha, someday. Now I have to get out of this heat! I’m melting like a snow cone in Phoneix! (10pts to anyone who catches that refrence)
