Suckers for Sneakers

Recently I’ve been shopping around for sneakers for my Mexico City trip at the end of the month, as I don’t think a pair of leather moccasins will translate very well with a full week of sight seeing. Jack Purcell sneakers have always been my favorite but the two pairs I have are pretty beat up. I was looking through their website and came across these guys. Jack Purcell LTT converse in seersucker. I kinda liked the idea at first but now I’m wondering if they maybe a bit too country club cool (in a bad way). So what do we think? Suckers for sneakers or sneakers for suckers?

Current Obsession: Tickle me Paisley

Is paisley making a come back? wether it officially is or not I could care less, but I am all about these paisley shorts from Jcrew. The first two pictured are  the Club Short made from a exclusive mill in Italy which Jcrew claims “[is] known for making some of the worlds best prints and patterns”. The last pair is a board short with a beautifully orchestrated color combination that can bring out the summer spirit in anyone. Perfect for mojitos by the pool.

Starting at $78, available on Jcrew.com

Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers

I was on Amazon.com looking for a Mexico City travel guide as I just found out I’ll be spending the week there for my birthday :] I’ve been bugging my mom to take me as she goes every year for business, and this time I finally got my wish! I’m super excited to see the sights and report back on what’s haute in Mexico City, so stay tuned for that!

After finding a few good travel guides, I also stumbled upon this little treasure – Fashion Illustration by Fashion Designers, by Laird Borrelli. This book is a collection of original sketches by 50 fashion designers including Phillip Lim, Karl Lagerfeld, and Peter Som.
Excerpt from Amazon.com

“…. Style maven Laird Borrelli has brought together 250 stunning sketches, designs, and concepts by a galaxy of prominent designers from every international fashion capital. Top names like Christian Lacroix and Karl Lagerfeld join hot up-and-comers such as Roksanda Ilincic and Yoshikazu Yamagata in a magnificent and unprecedented gallery of distinctive signature illustration styles, unique creative thought processes, and work in a huge variety of media. Lively text introduces each designer, and an utterly invaluable reference section in back provides contact details for each designer’s label. Fashion illustration has never looked so good.

I can’t wait to get my copy! There is nothing more exciting or magical (well, to me anyway) than to see a designers creative process, and to see a piece go from concept to collection.

Shopping Guide – Parke and Ronen

Yesterday after working in the studio I thought it would be more fun to go shopping than sit in grueling LA traffic for an hour. One of the girls at Resurrection had mentioned a store next door called Parke and Ronen, so I decided to check it out. What I found was a great collection of tailored shorts varying from fun stripes to solid khakis and needless to say, I wanted every last pair. There forte however, seems to lie in swimwear. From board shorts to bikinis Parke and Ronen know whats up. Now if only I had a bangin’-beach-ready-bod to pull a pair of those swim shorts off.

Fashion for the Sole

So I’ve been collecting TOMS for a little over a year now and I have so many pairs it’s ridiculous. Although a splurge for a pair of these won’t make you feel so bad, as it is TOMS mission to put shoes on the world (or at least, those without). When you purchase a pair of TOMS, they donate a pair on your behalf to a child without shoes. Pretty cool right?

TOMS has had a few artist collection, and most recently, a line with Ruby, Ralph Lauren (the pairs pictured above). I love this collaboration because as amazing and comfortable as TOMS are, they can sometimes be too casual for the things that I wear, this collection adds just the appropriate amount of preppy for those khaki and polo days.
