Give Me Liberty!
I was out and about today running some errands, checking out the new Zac Posen collaboration at Target, and stumbled upon this discounted treasure. Not too long ago, Liberty of London the British Luxury brand also launched their full range collaboration with Target. All of the stuff is on double mark down, and I managed to get the shirts at $10 a pop, while the ties were only $4.50! That is the best bargain I’ve found in a long time, and those shirts will be perfect paired with shorts and moccasins for the coming summer months. Now I just need an excuse to wear the ties…

The City
So here are some pictures as promised from my very recent trip to New York City. I was lucky enough to be amongst the group of editors from our newspaper The Mountaineer and our magazine Substance (in which I am Managing Editor) who were chosen to go. The conference held in Times Square by College Media Advisers is among the largest collection of student journalist and media professionals in the nation, which meets once a year in the spring in New York City. I had the great opportunity to meet with editors from The New York Times, The New Yorker, Associated Press, and other industry professions from schools and established publications.
After work comes much needed play. I’d get up early to go to sessions and by the late afternoon my friend David, who is a hair stylist living in the city, was nice enough to take time out of his day and show me around. The first day out was insane since it happened to be the hurricane of 2010, but I wasn’t going to let gusty winds and pounding rain keep me from my Soho shopping experience. The details of my purchases will need a whole different post alone, but I found a few essential pieces that I cannot wait to share.
The trip has inspired me and made me realize that there is no other place I could possibly finish my schooling. I’m shifting gears to apply to schools in NYC and I couldn’t be more excited, it just all feels like it’s happening so fast.
A special thank you to my friend David Lopez (in the last picture) who took these fabulous photos to document my trip, and all around showing me an amazing time. Please check out his website, his work is amazing and I have to make an appointment for a cut & color the next time I’m in the city :)
Oh and yes, the 6th picture of me IS in front of Carries stoop. I don’t care if it’s cheesy or too fan boy but everything I know about New York is from Sex and the City. I know the series foreword and backward and it would have been a sin to be in Manhattan and not pay homage to Carries apartment.

New York State of Mind
This week has been insane. I had an interview at the Writing Center at my school on Monday to be a writing tutor (interview outfit in second pic; color blocked cardi, black gingham shirt, and vintage wool tie), so I hope that works out. The semester has been off to a good start, I like all my classes with the exception of math, of course. As hectic as this week has been already, I LEAVE FOR NYC TOMORROW! I am so unbelievably excited, and will try to blog while I’m there (if time allows). Now all I have to do is get through my anthro and math exams today, hopefully my favorite Missoni scarf will help me get through them. First picture; Missoni scarf, American Apparel tri blend cardi. and Jcrew white shirt. Off to class!

In Shadows
Now while I typically look for neutrals with pops of color, and very little black, more black seems to be filtering into my wardrobe. For example, I was at Nordstrom last weekend when my eyes drifted over to men’s shoes (as they tend too) and I was instantly pulled in by these black Sperry boat shoes with patent detail. OK, so maybe patent leather is a little unconventional for a boat shoe, but since when has fashion been about convention? Next is the Jack Spade industrial coal dipped tote which I love, and have been lugging around with me to class for the past two weeks. The strap really helps when it gets heavy.
So about school, I lost my mind and decided to take 19 units this semester. Crazy, I know, but I am really excited to be back at school and start working on my projects for the magazine/newspaper this fall. Once I get more comfortable with my schedule I promise you’ll see more post!

Bulldogs & Burgers
Hey everyone! So my recent blogging absence has been due to the fact that I’ve picked up a new 9-5 job that has placed me, once again, with the rest of the American work force. Whats my new line of work you ask? Well I am now working as paralegal at a law firm in Glendale. I know what you’re thinking, how did I go from fashion to law? Well I figure I’d broaden my horizons and explore a new field. It’s for the experience more than anything, but recently I have been entertaining the idea of possibly going to law school. So far the work has been interesting, sometimes exciting, and mostly tiring. I’m being challenged in a way that I never have before, so that is always good. Now having said that this first week back in the work force has been EXHAUSTING! I get home, eat, try and check my blog roll and e-mails, and then get some sleep. Once I get into the swing of things I’ll be able to balancing work and blogging better.
Now onto the clothes ;] This is what I wore to work on Friday; a check shirt from H&M, Levi’s, Bulldog critter socks from J.Crew that I absolutely love, and my new Cole Hann penny loafers I mentioned I bought from the Anniversary Sale at Nordstrom. The shoes are a little narrow and pinch my toes unfortunately (even after I’ve had them heat stretched) but I’m hoping after a few more wears they’ll fell better.
Last night Stephanie and Matt came over and we decided we would have a burger night, so they stopped at the groccery store then came over to my house and got to cooking (as I sat on the counter and flipped through magazines, hahaha). The meal was aaaamaaaziiinggg. Patty’s on kaiser rolls with 2 y/o aged white chedder, bacon, musrooms, a special honey dijon mustard sauce, butter lettuce, and tomotaes. Complimented with a side of Matt’s secret seasoned potatos. I’m drooling just thinking about it. Matt needs to finish up school and open up that resturaunt already.
Now off to have dinner and see Julie & Julia with Andrea. Oh how I’ve missed weekends.

Purple Craze
So its been a while since I’ve done a ‘What I Wore’, but I now have the tools to post these regularly and figured I’d fill you all in on whats been going on with me style-wise.
The purple polka-dot bow-tie is Marc Jacobs and was a birthday present from Andrea. It’s so cute but since the weather’s been in the triple digits lately I’ve refrained from keeping my neck all tied up, that and I haven’t had any place to wear it! I do think it’ll be perfect for fall though. The shirt I bought on sale at H&M for five bucks! How awesome is that? The navy chinos are Scotch & Soda and they fit amazing. Possibly the best fitting, (un-tailored) pair of pants in my wardrobe. Lastly, the shoes I have been dreaming of…purple suede moccasins! I picked these bad boys up while I was in Mexico City. It was at the Zara next to my hotel and I pretty much flipped out when I saw them. What I like about them is that the color is pretty bright in the sunlight, but once its darker they look almost like a black.
Well I hope everyone is having a good weekend, much more to share very soon!
